The Teatro Stabile di Torino was first established under the name “Piccolo Teatro della Città di Torino” by resolution of the Turin City Council on 27 May 1955. Two years later it assumed its present name. On the 16 March 1992 the Authority was transformed into an Association. Its founding members were the Piedmont Regional Authority, Turin Municipal Council, Turin Provincial Authority, the CRT Foundation and the Compagnia San Paolo di Torino.  The Teatro Stabile di Torino moves from a period in which it manages two historical theatres, Teatro Carignano and Teatro Gobetti and extending its work and concentrating its activity on the metropolitan area.
The Teatro Stabile di Torino olso programmes Fonderie Limone Moncalieri, Teatro Astra, Teatro Vittoria. This spaces policy is a clear cultural signal. It demonstrates a courage to move outside the theatre, away from conventionally designated spaces, with experimental productions as well as more traditional works, in order to breath new life into the city’s theatre.
