This quintessential drama, the most famous of Strindberg’s plays, was first performed in 1887. The playwright uses the conflicts between a couple to question not only marriage per se, but also the values of bourgeois society: “a masterpiece of harsh psychology”, as Nietzsche defined it. The play is directed by and stars Gabriele Lavia as the archetype of a man’s collapse, the victim of a cruelly domineering woman.<\/p>\n
