That is the issue that the characters in Ibsen&#8217;s play have to deal with. Hedda Gabler is fully aware of other people&#8217;s lies and hypocrisy. Still, she has no means of distancing herself from them; therefore, she adopts an aristocratic arrogance, considers herself superior to everyone and is incapable of entering into genuine relationships. Hungarian director Kristza Sz\u00e9kely, an associate artist of the TST, stages one of the most remarkable late 19th-century plays about a world in a state of crisis.
