Paris, December 15, 1840. Napoleon has been dead for twenty years, but it is on this freezing day that his remains are finally allowed to return to his homeland to be laid to rest in the church of Les Invalides. Beneath the snow, crowds gather along the roadside to watch the passing of the funeral procession. Among them is a young Victor Hugo, who would later recount the moment in a vivid and passionate essay. Playwright and director Davide Sacco, inspired by those very words, creates a polyphonic performance for Lino Guanciale, exploring the death of heroes, gods, and fathers.<\/p>\n
