Accessibility has been one of our strategic priorities since 2021, when we became the first theatre in Italy to introduce a structured programme of accessible productions within our season. We believe that theatre should be a welcoming and stimulating place where everyone can feel at ease: a shared experience that encourages creativity, dialogue and reflection. Guided by the principle of design for all, we produce supporting and supplementary materials, offer activities that introduce audiences to our productions and use new technologies to make the theatre experience accessible to everyone, in keeping with Article 30 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This established programme also helps strengthen the public role of theatre in the 21st century: a shared cultural space that promotes participation and wellbeing, to which everyone should have equal access.

SURTITLES

Surtitles are available in Italian and in an accessible Italian version that includes descriptions of sounds. Depending on individual preferences, seating and venue, they can be accessed through smart glasses, tablets or smartphones provided by the theatre.

ACCESSIBLE MATERIALS

A video in Italian Sign Language (LIS), with audio and subtitles, introduces the production and provides practical information about attending. The accessible programme offers further details about the plot and characters, alongside information about the playwrights and directors. An Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) guide is available for the production aimed at younger audiences and schools. Materials are uploaded to the individual production pages on our website and app shortly before opening night.

AUDIO DESCRIPTION

Audio description is delivered through headphones throughout the performance, using smartphones provided by the theatre.

TOUCH TOUR

Each accessible production includes a descriptive touch tour of the stage with members of the cast and technical team, offering an opportunity to explore the set, costumes and props up close and through touch. Participation is free; booking is required: accessibilita@teatrostabiletorino.it

WEB

An accessibility panel, accessed through the icon in the bottom-right corner, allows you to customise how the website is displayed by adjusting fonts, colours and animations, highlighting different types of content and enabling accessibility profiles: Epilepsy Safe Mode, Blindness Mode, Cognitive Disability Mode, ADHD Friendly Mode and Keyboard Navigation.
