Born in Lebanon in 1968 and shaped by exile in Paris and Montréal, Wajdi Mouawad is one of the leading voices in contemporary theatre. Following Come gli uccelli, Marco Lorenzi returns to his writing with this modern tragedy, rooted in the myth of Oedipus yet reversing its perspective. At the heart of the story is Nawal, a woman who lives through the violence of history and strives to break its cycle. Upon her death, her children Jeanne and Simon must uncover a long-buried truth, embarking on a journey across generations, places and times. Pain, silence and anger are passed down like an invisible inheritance, while memory becomes the ground on which to confront what has remained unspoken. In Incendi, truth must be fought for and lived through. Mouawad weaves together the intimate and the epic, conveying the violence of history through the body, language and memory.
