A forgotten Pirandello? Perhaps because it’s too uncomfortable, too truthful. Yet One, or No One (O di uno o di nessuno) feels more relevant than ever. Two friends, Tito and Carlino, vie for the affection of Melina—a former prostitute, now pregnant, with no certainty as to the father. The news of this unwanted pregnancy creates a rift between the two men, both unable to take responsibility. Crude arguments of jealousy and possession erupt, disregarding Melina’s needs and treating her as an object. But the young woman stands her ground—with dignity and emotional strength. The child is hers, and all she wants is to keep it, expecting nothing from either man. Fabrizio Falco reinterprets Pirandello’s text through a contemporary lens in a raw and moving production.
