Following the success of Anatomy of a Suicide, winner of five Ubu Awards, lacasadargilla presents the Italian premiere of Caryl Churchill’s Escaped Alone. Four women gather on a summer afternoon: amid tea, conversation and memories, everyday life fractures, giving way to sudden accounts of catastrophe. Sally, Vi, Lena and Mrs Jarrett move between humour and unease in a dialogue woven from interruptions, shifts in mood and overlapping thoughts. Churchill, one of Britain’s foremost contemporary playwrights, creates an unsettling domestic collision between comedy and apocalypse, questioning the fragility of our lives and the certainties on which they rest. In Monica Capuani’s translation, lacasadargilla explores the visionary power of writing that transforms an ordinary afternoon into a disturbing portrait of the present, where tragedy and comedy coexist, and catastrophe, both personal and collective, erupts into everyday life.
