This masterpiece that Genet wrote in 1947 is a perfect metatheatrical device, which reveals the continuous reversal between being and seeming inherent to the art of the stage. The story’s main characters are two sisters who live a love-hate relationship with their mistress, the elegant Madame. Every night, they stage a ritual in which they take turns pretending to be Madame and then proceed to kill her. In this production, which transposes the plot to a contemporary city, the themes of power, gender and inequality reverberate powerfully. Veronica Cruciani’s direction matches the talent of Eva Robin, Beatrice Vecchione and Matilde Vigna. The latter two trained at the Scuola dello Stabile di Torino and have already been acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.
